Heat Delays: Both girls had just begun their heat cycles right after Thanksgiving, then stalled-out. This is called a "split-heat". Sometimes there is no physical explanation for this. It is somewhat common in younger females, but my girls both did this last heat(s), and still succeeded in 2 healthy litters, where all pups in BOTH litters lived! It is a delay, which we all are disappointed about, but since they resume their cycles, eventually, and successful pregnancies do occur, the vet doesn't suspect any hormonal isssues with the girls. They should not be stressed out, as nothing in their schedule has changed. They live the Life of Riley here....all the dogs have just had their yearly check-ups and annual booster vaccinations, go in and out as they choose, fed twice a day, get tasty chewies, go for walks and car rides, and watch TV with us every night!
In my opinion, it seems that each female (Dulcinea is still intact, but we don't breed her anymore) waits on the others to begin. Now that Dulcinea is coming along, and her heat is progressing, we are hopeful that Esther & Nadia will resume their cycles soon.
If things don't progress here in a couple days, I will take the girls in to the vet to see if there's anything more we can do...last time, we changed their protein source, and added vegetables to their dog food, and they did resume with their cycles. The vet said, "That may or may not have done the trick", but we are doing just that, again now.
Guess we have little options, other than wait on them...
Thanks to all who are continuing to wait on these breedings...we appreciate your patience!! If any further questions...don't hesitate to call or chime-in!
